Vegetables and Meat

In this restaurant you have the possibility to eat vegetables or meat, even if it's a vegetarian restaurant. At lunch it's always full and can happen to seat near unknown people. The food is good and the meals are large. I ate salad, a soy hamburger and the "ale pie" that is very very good!

This place is great when you're feeling like you've over indulged recently and need to eat your weight in beans and veg.
The food is wonderful, with a great specials menu that changes often. The burgers are superb, as are the smoothies.
But as Grace said above, not being able to book makes things a bit tricky, but I've never had to wait more than five minutes or so at lunchtime.
I just wish they did take away boxes! x

Mildred The Magnificent

Located in central Soho, the continuing popularity and friendly vibe of this wonderful vegetarian restaurant bears testament to the quality of the food and the company. I suspect that a lot of the pleasurable ambience of Mildred’s is due to the fact that even today, there are so few vegetarian restaurants in our capital that vegetarians are just happy not to have to spend valuable chatting and drinking time picking through yet another meaty menu to find the one or two dishes they can eat. Mildred’s food is imaginative and tasty, and in my experience popular with people of all dietary tribes. There is a small bar at the front, and a fairly tightly packed dining room at the back. I guess that a meal for two with wine would cost around £40, maybe less. My only criticism, and this applies to most London eateries, is that it is MUCH TOO LOUD due to the lack of noise absorbing carpets, soft furnishing etc. Put 40 or so people together in a room with a wooden floor, all banging metal against metal and china and, and the result is DEAFENING – no one can hear each other, so they all shout, which makes it worse!

Vegan Heaven

Being vegan means continually checking and double checking the places you want to eat out with friends for fear of being left with a bread roll and limp lettuce. Mildreds is a hive of activity where on really busy nights you can see swamps of people flocking to the exquisite food in such kitsch surroundings. This is not haute cuisine, nor is it a secluded opulent restaurant. What it is, is the most amazing restaurant for food - the sausges mash and gravy is my favourite so impossible to eat elsewhere in the UK and a real warm treat. The surroundings is sparse and it has a modern day twist on the greasy spoon cafe, but its clean, funky, and staffed by highly friendly waiters. Find a vegan or a vegetarian and open their eyes - allow them to view a menu like we have never seen before.
Vegetarian Restaurant for non-Veges

This place is a real find. Recommended by my dad, it has a great atmosphere and serves up some delicious food.
I'm not a vegetarian, though sit on the 'not bothered whether meat is part of my meal' side of the fence; however I'd be very surprised if a meat-eater was disappointed by Mildred's menu which offers a great range of solid classics such as curries, pies, Mexican and burgers using super-fresh organic ingredients in healthy portions
They also serve a great wide range of organic beers and wine to keep things green.

If the word "vegetarian"Â fills you with fear, "vegan"Â conjures images of alfalfa sprout burgers and you'd like nothing better than to deep fry Dr Gillian McKeith, take a deep breath. Relax. Trust me. Mildred's is one of the best meat-free venues in London, serving punchy, interesting and un-faddy food. Pies, curries, pasta dishes, burgers and soups are hearty, good-value and made from top-quality ingredients. The service can be patchy and this place gets seriously busy (plus you can't book), but it is well worth a visit with a group of friends, on a date, for a quick bite or a longer evening. The drinks menu is good , although having sampled most of it, I can conclusively state that drinking Organic wine does not stop you getting a hangover.
