I woudl prefer to eat a Slug than go here

11 Jul 08, 15:41 1* Well below expectations

If you like shouting loudly to annoying people, wearing too much perfume or aftershave, drinking poor quality drinks at an overly busy bar, and wading through alcohol casualties to get to and from a Pub, then go here. If you are not tempted by any of the above, then don’t. The Slug and Lettuce barely fulfils the criteria of what a pub actually is.

Not worth your time.

Admittedly there's not much in the way of high class competition round this area but The Slug & Lettuce has to be the most over priced and distinctly average restaurant I've been to in a long time. The order was wrong and mostly underwhelming as my rare steak was cooked through and the salad totally uninspiring.

it's moved

The Slug has moved across the road from this picture. It's really nice inside but gets absolutley packed on weekends. it has quite a nice terrace are outside which is good for smokers.

Drinks are quite pricey and the service is quite slow.

Ok, but not great

29 Apr 08, 07:55 3* As expected

I've been to several slug and lettuces around the UK and all of them look great. As with several others I've been to, however, the aspiration doesn't match the reality. Slow service, average food and bar staff that look like they'd rather be somewhere else. Such a shame.

Stinky fingers

17 Apr 08, 13:32 3* As expected

Food was ok... Service was ok... Not worth nearly a tenner of my hard earned cash though - Let me tell you!

The worst thing was the stench of chilli on my fingers throughout the rest of the day. I washed those bad boys nuff times - The stench remained. What do they put in their chilli??!

Nice Food

17 Apr 08, 09:44 2* Below expectations

Great selction of yummy food on the menu, loads of tempting things and found it very hard to choose. Portions are very good sizes and was totally stuffed after my meal. Shame about the poor service, the fact the food took ages to arrive and they kept forgetting the drinks made it a rather disappointing visit.

Not such good service. The service was very slow for a lunch time - they must know most people are on a lunch hour! Took ages to get a drink and a long time for the food to arrive. On the plus side the menu was good and lots of things on there looked tempting!

Nice decor...

... shame about the service. It was a bit on the slow side, maybe because we were in a large group but none the less it was a bit disappointing. The food was good though, I'd have the Ceasar Salad again but the burgers did look yummy!

Good pub food

16 Apr 08, 14:51 3* As expected

The Slug recently moved across the road to what was Havana. Its a nice big space but feels a little dark on a sunny day. The staff are nice and the food is good hangover food - big home made burgers, sharer plates and good salads.

Bit slow for a lunch tho, had an hour lunch break and was late back as the food took a while to come out, this is not commonplace as have had prev very quick service...maybe an off day.

Looks great...

on the inside, but the newly relocated Slug and Letuce wasn't what I expected.

On a lunch hour, the service was a little on the slow-side, although the place is quite big, so they may have had an off day in the kitchen.

My olives were great, and the beer was nice (very nice glass!)

slug speed service...

16 Apr 08, 14:39 2* Below expectations

this place is ok. the food is ok. the people were nice looking. but the service was sooooo slow. I mean all i wanted was a coke - A COKE! it shouldn't have taken 10 minutes. Also the reggae-reggae sauce (as seen on dragon's den) was ultimately disappointing

Good outside, bad inside.

26 Oct 07, 13:37 3* As expected

Formerly Havana, the Slug and Lettuce is ironically more cosy and comfortable outside than it is inside. The beautifully set decking overlooking St. Nicholas Street provides a very nice setting for drinks and meals alike. I'm not overly keen on the inside of this bar. It always seems a bit cold and dingy but the beer and wine selection is excellent and I regularly stop in when I'm out in town.
