Review of The Royal Albert Hall

29 Sep 07, 14:50

My favourite venue 5*

If you are scared of hights, whatever you do, don't get the £4 tickets for concerts because you will be right up in the gods- it is truely terrifying.

That aside, I love the Albert Hall. The staff are friendly, and I have yet to see a performance I have been disappointed with. The bars are good- but get there early if you want an interval drink or you won't have time to. I can't remember if they offer a service to order your interval drinks before the start. If they do, use it.

The "mushrooms" on the ceiling are mightly funky too- make sure you look up when you are there!

Review of The Shakespeare Tavern

A pub 3*

The shakespeare at Victoria station is a nice enough pub. Same menu as most of the other pubs in the area as they are all run by the same company, so at least you know what you are getting.

Gets very busy when there is sport on- and they have a seperate restaurant area if you want to get away from the hustle and bustle of the suits after work to eat.

Drink prices are average for this part of London.

Don't be surprised if there is a tramp with a dog sitting outside. He is harmless.

Review of Ronnie Scotts Club

29 Sep 07, 14:40

Legend 5*

Ronnie Scotts is AMAZING. FOr a musician, playing at Ronnie Scotts could almost be described as a life ambition. I loved it here, as a performer. I did a gig here with my music college jazz band.

Its small, smaller than you would expect, but amazing. The drinks are very expensive, buts it is worth it. The entrace prices are also quite expensive, especially on the weekends. The prices are cheaper on weekdays and they offer discounts for students and members of the Musicans Union. I not sure about other consession rates.

Make sure you get tickets early if there is something on there you want to see- you can book in advance, but you can just turn up on the door too.

Ronnie Scott- what a legend.

Review of Pizza On The Park

Jazz, man 4*

I came here to see my friends band, with my boyfriend at the time and we had a brilliant night out.

The staff were friendly, polite and efficient. The food was good, the music was good and the way the place is decorated gives it a Ronnie Scots type feel, but bigger (and less expensive).

The restaurant is split into two sections, with the "jazz" bit downstairs. So if you don't want to pay for entry you dont have to, and you can sit away from the music.

All in all, a great night out.

Review of The British Museum

29 Sep 07, 14:22

Slightly disappointing 4*

Last time I went to the British Museum was for a job interview, but before that, I decided to make the most of it and have a little looksy round my favourite parts of the place.

I love the parthenon gallieries and the egyptian galleries- although there as a distinct lack of mummies that time- very disappointing.

The Parthenon galleries never fail to amaze me, although the conduct of the visitors does. I know its hard to resist, but please try not to touch the freize- you'll ruin it for everyone else.

The other thing that disappoints me about the British Museum was the attitude of the senior staff to their colleagues- it wasn't very pleasant and I have found them to be generally not very polite at all.

Apart from that, The BM is a great day out- has amazing architecture and lots and lots to do for all ages.

Well worth a visit.

Review of Astor Bar and Grill

Rip off 2*

This place was an absolute rip off. My friend band were playing there and had set up a guest list, but upon arrival, the managers would not allow anyone on the guest list to enter for free as pre arranged and attempted to charge everyone £10 just for entry when it was only supposed to be £5 anyway and £10 after christmas.

The bar was ridiculously expensive and the staff were arrogant, defensive and generally rude.

I would not go back here again, especially not to eat incase you annoyed them and they spat in your food.

Review of The Archduke

Expensive 2*

This is the most expensive bar I'd ever been to at the time. We'd gone with some musicians after a concert at the Festival Hall, and I was shocked at the prices!

I could only afford one drink in the end- a totally disappointing evening. The staff were not particularly pleasant either.

Review of The Rubens Hotel At The Palace

Christmas Lunches 4*

For a carvery, I was very impressed. We went there for a work christmas lunch and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves, and stuffed ourselves.

The hotel is lovely, the decor is beautiful. There is often a man playing piano while you sip wine in the comfort of the bar before dinner.

Warning- it is VERY expensive for drinks and the staff expect to be tipped!

I also saw Robbie Coltrane in there.

Review of The Slug And Lettuce

Nice for lunch. 3*

I came in here for the first time once lunch time when the All Bar One next door was rammed full of suits.

I was pleasantly surprised. Lovely atmosphere, big chairs and sofas to relax on and friendly bar staff.

Standard London type prices- so don't expect any change!

Review of All Bar One

Bog Standard 3*

I really like this All Bar One. The staff are generally friendly, they make excellent wine suggestions and in the toilets it tells you to keep your belongings near you in case pick pockets try to nab it- very informative, if a bit unnerving having this random voice suddenly start talking to you.

Bog standard All Bar One food- quite nice, not too expensive. Absolutely rammed with suits at lunch time and immediately after work.

Slug and Lettuce next door was far more civilised at lunchtime!
