Review of Shampan

Best curry house on Brick Lane
There are an awful lot of terrible restaurants on Brick Lane, I'm still not 100% sure that there isn't one kitchen underground serving out food for the entire road. Shampan is a gem though. It's not snazzy, it's not modern and it probably isn't worth a trek to - but if you're walking up Brick Lane, being hounded by the curry hawks outside then you should definitely duck into this place.
The menu is earthy with an emphasis on traditional cooking, there are lots of pulses and stew type dishes on the menu, as well as all the standards you'd expect. It definitely has enough to offer the more adventurous curry explorer though, there are plenty of unusual options to pick from.
The service is good and quick. The toilets aren't wonderful and the place is always noisy - but that's what you want from a curry house. The noise that is, not rubbish toilets. x

Review of Taylor Taylor London

Wonderful place
This Cheshire St branch of Taylor Taylor is slightly less theatrical in looks than its Commercial St partner, but is still wonderful. Its small and cosy, with a very cute disco/art deco look to it.
The staff are great, especially Oscar. You always get a drink as soon as you walk in - very often some snazzy champagne cocktail! The hairdressers are always honest and will actually talk through what will and won't work with your hair. A work contact actually span me round after a haircut there telling me how his mother was a hairdresser and he could see a good haircut a mile off, then spent the next ten minutes saying how much he loved my new cut!
If you're after a big Hollywood experience then go the Commercial St branch - its got everything from 20 ft chandeliers through to a completely gold tiled underground hairwashing room (i'm sure there's a proper word for that). x
