Historical landmark hotel 4*

This hotel is a landmark in Colchester. If you are going to stay in Colchester, stay here.

Rooms in the old front part of the building are extremely tastefully renovated to preserve the character of the building.

Don't drink too much as the floors do go up and down a bit and have the potential to leave you a bit sea sick!!

Nice place to stop for brunch 4*

When you're out buying your farm produce and your Aga from the adjoining shops, its definitely worth stopping for tea or brunch in the Bull Ring Tearooms.

They do a great scrambled eggs and full English.

Decor is nice and homely.

Make sure you get there early as it can get quite busy.

Review of The Wet Fish Cafe

More exciting brunch - Not for those looking for a full English! 4*

We went to the Wet Fish last weekend for the first time in a long time.

We are usually stalwarts of J, but decided to mix it up.

The food was very good, with great scrambled eggs and smoked salmon. Others had "coddled eggs" and something involving chorizo, eggs and potato.

If you are looking for a straight full English you won't find it here (although you could possibly order parts of many other things to make it up), but there's always time for a change!

The decor is good, with the original features of the old fish shop tastefully preserved. The service is also good.

We will be going again.

Best Steak in NW6 4*

This restaurant is a gem to be discovered north of West Hampstead village on Fortune Green Road. As the others have said, it is small and cosy with good decor.

The service is good and if you are a steak lover you'll love the menu.

Although there are a number of cafes in West Hampstead, there are very few good restaurants.

Review of The Anchor

Nice on a Sunny Friday Evening in London 4*

What better place than The Anchor to spend that sunny Friday evening after work drinking with your mates?

If you are forsighted enough to escape work early and get yourself one of the tables in the Bankside seating area you are rewarded with an evening drinking in the beer and a fantastic view of London.

True, as per comments above, the service is not always the fastest or the friendliest, but it is generally busy and you are really only going there for the location.

We've tried the food upstairs too. The price is good, but to be honest it will never be the best meal you can get in the area. The decor is a bit dated as is the menu, but then, where else could you eat with that view, a view which Samuel Pepys also made the most of to watch the Fire of London?

Review of Bridge Tea Rooms

Chocolate Box Traditional Tea Rooms 4*

If you are looking for somewhere "properly English" to take a visitor this is your place.

The Bridsge Tea Rooms do great traditional cream teas. The scones taste home made, and there is a lengthy tea menu.

What more could you want?

Can't promise it is good for your wasteline though!

Great Sunday lunch pub - but remember to book! 4*

This pub had an overhaul a number of years ago and is a great place for a high quality Sunday lunch. It has a great name, and is in a very locatio - Nomansland!

The staff are friendly and the food is good, its also on the route of a very good walk from Wheathampstead back to Harpenden.

If you want to east at a peak time, make sure you book!

A Cut Above Your Ordinary Indian Retaurant 4*

The restaurant in Hampstead offers all those of us who now won't accept any other brand of Indian takeaway the option to break away from your meal in front of the TV and go out for dinner.

As the previous reviewer says, this is never going to be your cheapest curry, and can be a bit confusing with renamed dishes but the food and surroundings are great.

It's still not any better on the waistline than any other curry but with this place it's worth it!

Review of Suze In Mayfair

09 Apr 08, 16:12

Great NZ Restaurant in the heart of London 4*

Every time I have eaten at Suze I have enjoyed it. The food is that great NZ fusion cooking, and the wine list is guaranteed to make anyone with any interest in Marlborough Sauv Blanc happy.

Years ago Suze also had a branch near Baker St which was more laid back than Suze in Mayfair, however, Suze in Mayfair is still providing great food in a central location.

Really Great Local 4*

I have been to this restaurant on many occasions and think it is definitely worth a mention here.

It is a great restaurant to live around the corner from. We have been for breakfast, lunch and dinner and always enjoy the great service of its truly Italian owners as well as the quality and price of the food. It is also one of the only places around which service brunch after midday on a Sunday (an amazing concept, expected by many antipodeans as normal, but hasn't really occurred to many of those running English cafes).

In the last year or so the restaurant has had a complete renovation and is now looking good to match the good food.

Enough said, go there!
