Really Great Local
I have been to this restaurant on many occasions and think it is definitely worth a mention here.
It is a great restaurant to live around the corner from. We have been for breakfast, lunch and dinner and always enjoy the great service of its truly Italian owners as well as the quality and price of the food. It is also one of the only places around which service brunch after midday on a Sunday (an amazing concept, expected by many antipodeans as normal, but hasn't really occurred to many of those running English cafes).
In the last year or so the restaurant has had a complete renovation and is now looking good to match the good food.
Enough said, go there!

Review of The Railway

Good Local Pub
If you are in West Hampstead and don't want to swan it up with those around the corner at The Gallery, The Railway is a good option.
It's a good size and generally full of locals and playing the football.
Staff are friendly and provide good service.
Food is god standard pub grub.
If you're looking for a place for a regular drink with your mates you won't be let down by this place.

Review of The Banana Tree Canteen

Good place for a quick eat
The Banana Tree provides a good option for a quick eat or a takeaway in West Hampstead.
It can get very busy on Friday nights, though so be sure to be there early.
The food is good but not fantastic, but generally always hits the mark.
Now that there is no more smoking in restaurants it has also improved as non-smokers are not forced to sit up the back.

Review of Suze In Mayfair

Great NZ Restaurant in the heart of London
Every time I have eaten at Suze I have enjoyed it. The food is that great NZ fusion cooking, and the wine list is guaranteed to make anyone with any interest in Marlborough Sauv Blanc happy.
Years ago Suze also had a branch near Baker St which was more laid back than Suze in Mayfair, however, Suze in Mayfair is still providing great food in a central location.

Review of Flat White Espresso Bar

Best Coffee in London
Flat White has been serving up great coffee from its location on Berwick Street for a while now. Started by an expat kiwi it is bringing great NZ coffee to the world, the sort of thing that continues to really put a thorn in the side of Starbucks trying to compete in NZ.
The premises are small to tiny, but the atmosphere is great and no matter what time of day you go the place is full and humming.
The food served on the side is also great, paninis with fillings more exciting than the standard London ham, cheese etc, great muffins etc
Finally, when you order tea, it comes in a porcelain cup and saucer like your grandmother used to serve you...

Review of Fitzroy Tavern

Good cheap pub for ex-UCL students
This pub is "pub of choice" for the large group of ex-UCL students I've found myself hanging out with.
It's central, the beer is cheap, and there are good options for curry / thai afterwards.
As the other reviewer says, the bar can become congested due to its layout, but that only proves that many people go there.

A Cut Above Your Ordinary Indian Retaurant
The restaurant in Hampstead offers all those of us who now won't accept any other brand of Indian takeaway the option to break away from your meal in front of the TV and go out for dinner.
As the previous reviewer says, this is never going to be your cheapest curry, and can be a bit confusing with renamed dishes but the food and surroundings are great.
It's still not any better on the waistline than any other curry but with this place it's worth it!

Review of Ye Old Black Lion

Rejuvenated pub
This previously "old man's pub" has had a major overhaul to create West Hampstead's first gastropub.
They've done a great job on the interiors and the place is generally full, but I have been a bit disappointed with the scope of the menu, which seems to be a bit static and doesn't really live up to the rest of the pub.
Also, service can occasionally be a bit slow.
A place llike this is a welcome addition though to West Hampstead, which was really lacking a quality pub.

Great Sunday lunch pub - but remember to book!
This pub had an overhaul a number of years ago and is a great place for a high quality Sunday lunch. It has a great name, and is in a very locatio - Nomansland!
The staff are friendly and the food is good, its also on the route of a very good walk from Wheathampstead back to Harpenden.
If you want to east at a peak time, make sure you book!

Review of Peldon Rose Inn

Nice lunch stop south of Colchester
When looking for reasonable weekend lunch spots around Colchester keep the Peldon Rose in mind.
The front of the pub is small and old, but in the back they have added a large conservatory - dining room. There ae also tables in the garden out the back, very nice in the event of good weather to eat in the shade of one of the trees.
The food is good too!
