Review of Hackney Mot Centre
07 May 08, 21:52
OVER PRICED RIP OFFS!
I took my car to Hackney MOT centre for an MOT.
I received a phone call later that day with an estimate of £517 to get it through the MOT.
I requested that they gave me a price breakdown. They quoted me £227 for the parts, £240 labour and £50 for the MOT.
I phoned around and manage to get all of the parts (except a new tyre) for just over £60!!
I then got a quote for the labour from a different garage for £140 (Hackney MOT centre quoted me £240).
Hackney MOT refused to match the £140 quote so I took my car elsewhere to get the repairs done with the intention of taking it back to Hackney MOT to have it re-tested.
However, the other garage just happened to be an MOT station too, and had a look over the car for me.
They explained that I did not need the vast majority of the work done to pass the MOT that Hackney MOT station said that I needed - not even the tyre....
In summary, I got the MOT at the 2nd garage, and Hackney MOT station tried to overcharge me by approximately £300 for work that I didn't need doing, and that they probably wouldn't have done - but would have said that they did do - if I had chosen to have the work carried out by them.
I will definitely not be going back there and would advise anyone to stay well away from these con-artists.....
You have been warned - spread the word!

Review of M D Motors
07 May 08, 20:04
Saved me £315!
I took my car for an MOT and the 1st testing station wanted £500 for parts and labour.
I located one part myself for £25 and took the car to MD to have it fitted.
MD motors fitted the part and passed the MOT all in for £160 and informed me that the other MOT station were being a 'little dishonest'.
Not sure how they could justify charging me £120 for labour though.... (+£40 for MOT)
Despite that I'll probably be going back to MD though...
Top guys...
Thanks.
