Review of David Lloyd Leisure Club

Nice pool 3*

David Lloyds are quite pricey, that's why I left them in favour of a much more reasonable one in the neighbouring town. The sales people are really pushy! I only went in there to have a look around and the next thing I knew I was signing a contract. However, this is a nice gym, it has all the standard fitness classes. I particularly liked the pool, which feels really private, in a room that lets in a lot of natural light from a high window, and is designed to permanently overspill (I think these are called eternity pools? Might have that wrong). They don't allow children in there at all, it's purely adults-only. The only thing is, it's pretty small for serious swimmers.

Review of Yates's Wine Lodge

Not the best pub in Lewisham 2*

I dunno, I used to work here so perhaps my view may be a little tainted but they let girls work until 1pm and didn't even provide a cab home! Also the 'cocktails' they made up for a Valentine's Day special were rubbish - one was just vodka and lemonade with a umbrella - how is that a cocktail? Where's the third spirit? Haha. Other than that, standard Yates' pub really, they are uninspirational at the best of times. Always busy though, if that's all you're looking for.

Review of Giraffe

29 May 08, 18:21

Lovely restaurant with lots of choice 4*

I really like Giraffe, it has a menu with a difference, with dishes from all over the world, from burgers to spicy rice meals. Plus lots of vegetarian choice...and fresh smoothies as well as alcohol on the menu, making it family friendly.

It is decorated nicely, brown woods and bright orange. They support charities overseas and have loyalty clubs/competitions for regular diners. The best dish, in my opinion, is their white chocolate cheesecake dessert! Absolutely delicious.

Review of Lal Akash Restaurants

Great curry 4*

This is a very good curry house. It is family run by some good people, they take pride in their food and rightly so. I recommend the bhunas...excellent. It serves the best Indian food in New Malden.

Review of Railway Tavern

29 May 08, 17:59

Very nice place for a beer 4*

This was a nice pub I visited recently. It was full of men being rather loud, the younger ones were a friendly crowd. The rest were old folk nursing their pints, watching the football on the small telly above the bar. We walked into one bar and were kind of nicely directed into the next...So who knows what goes on in the first bar, maybe it's locals only for whatever reason! The drinks were so cheap, though it is because I am used to London prices. Very nice place to go simply because of the back drop to the pub - beautiful rolling hills.

Review of Pets At Home

29 May 08, 17:35

Animal supermarket - bit odd 2*

This is basically a superstore for pets and their accessories. They have chinchillas here which is possibly the most exciting animal. They also have a dog grooming parlour which is fun to have a squizz at on the way in. Also, a wide array of fish, though their advice is not the best. We bought a Japanese fighter fish here and they neglected to tell us they can’t live with certain shrimps. It did not survive, in fact that shrimp tore everyone up in the tank. I would expect the people to know more what they are talking about when recommending what species can live together. Though perhaps you compromise on expertise when you go to a pet ‘super’ store.

Review of Sir Robert Peel

29 May 08, 17:33

Rather ropey 2*

I have been to see a few bands here and they've been ok. But this joint is perhaps better known for it’s female, erm, exotic dancers performing on certain nights. Whilst I am intrigued about this side of the Peel's business, I am in no immediate hurry to rush over there and check them out. It is in the less desirable area of town so emerging after a late night out and having to pass the local estate on the way home isn't the most attractive prospect...

Review of The Ram

29 May 08, 14:09

Jolly nice riverside public house 4*

The Ram is a good pub, specially in the Summer as it has a large riverside seating area at the rear. They occasionally have live acoustic bands. It's a traditional old building, with a 'real' pub feel, in the nicer part of town, and the prices for drinks are very reasonable. I have been here many times and love the vibe.

Review of The Kingston Tup

29 May 08, 14:03

Popular but pricey 3*

This is a good pub but a bit on the pricey side. It has salsa classes on a Monday, one of which I've been to and he's a good teacher. The food is fairly good also. I think it's run by Australians so it is big on screening all the big sports matches. The staff are pretty friendly and very efficient.

Review of Boots The Chemists

29 May 08, 13:56

handy 3*

This is a good Boots, large with plenty of staff on hand to help you out. It is always busy but the queues move quickly, and it's handy being so close to Charing Cross station (and bigger than the average in-station branch). I love their two for one offers and the advantage card is genius.
