and the pickled eggs aren't bad either
the pickled eggs look almost as old as the pub itself. Used to go in here a lot when I worked in Holborn and it was a welcome relief from a lot of the more manufactured concept bars in the vicinity.

Brilliant Chinese - shame about the black forest gateaux
We went there last night and I'd say that I agree with most of what's already been said..... pricy but good food. The soft shell crab is great and the two duck dishes we had were superb - they do something weird with peanuts and the mini pak choi the best I've had.
dim sum platter to start magnificent
I kind of feel it's a bit too corporatey - but then again with these prices it's what you'd expect.
Coming to the deserts.... frankly don't bother.... a big let down after the wonderful earlier foods.. The black forest gateaux (how inappropriate is that) was frankly bland and tasted like it had been made many hours before......

Review of Soho Gyms

waterloo gymtastic gym
Used to be a member here for a year when I lived round the corner.... reckon it's the best in the Soho Athletic chain - bigger than the one in Covent Garden.
Really good yoga and spin classes at weekends and so far it doesn't look like they've over sold the membership.
It's arranged under 3 radio arches so you have to be used to a bit of rumble from above - but overall it's a good place.

Review of Franklins

High quality family run restaurant in Kennington
A great menu of stuff - the smoked mackeral and beetroot for starter is highly recommended. They do sweetbreads as well if you're feeling brave.
It's a bit like Baltic on Blackfriars Bridge road, but smaller and more intimate.
only criticism is that it's a bit pricy (£35-40 a head when we went) which means it can often be a bit empty.

it's not there anymore!
This place shut and is now either the "Kennington Bookshop" which is rather fab...... or the somewhat swanky "il duco" cafe.
I blame the yuppies personally.

Good old family run guitar shop
Basically it's a guitar shop.... run by two guys who look like they've been there for years and years....... it's very friendly and they seem to have a great range of guitars and keyboards.
I nipped in to buy some new guitar strings and they sound great.

Review of Central YMCA Club

Good pool....
So you're looking for a central london swimming pool.... you can either: - pay £90 a month and get to swim up and down a 15M oxygen injected swank fest in the third space - pay £4 to go to the Oasis and hope you miss the floating debris in the water - pay £40 a month and get the YMCA - the pool is great - it's a full 25M and not too packed.....
overall this is a great and well managed Gym.

completely agree
Popped back to Clapham this weekend to pick up some meat for a BBQ we were having.
Got there at 5 as they were closing and it was still utterly packed . .
It ain't cheap, but the quality is brilliant.... 1.5kg of boned and diced lamb plus 5 large venison sausages came in at a steep £34!! - but they were wonderful and served 7 people easily.
The homemade pork pies looked great but I managed to resist

Review of Ebury Street Wine Bar

used to be good if you worked for Yahoo
This was the local when Yahoo! were based on Ebury Bridge road round the corner. It's pretty posh - and the decor is good.... seem to remember that the service sometimes used to take a long time when it was busy.

Review of The French House Dining Room

I thought it was overpriced
I took my French in-laws here years ago and it was very disappointing..... also I went here with my mum a few years ago and she got chatted up by some dodgy alcholic bohemian. Nice beer though - if it's good enough for Francis Bacon and Tom Baker it's good enough for you.
