Review of Hair We Do

Been closed for years - I think?!?!
Seems to still be standing as a shopfront, but never seen it open, what's going on? With a name like this punters should be queueing round the block, shurely?!?!

That joke isn't funny anymore
This was a regular haunt when I was a student - back in the 'not-quite pre-decimal days'. It was cheap, and funny to come here. The service is notoriously awful, angry waiters who don't want you to sit with your friends, the wrong food turning up, being charged on the bill for stuff you didn't order (ho! ho! hilarious!). The trouble is, the joke wears thin, well, for me it wore thin about 15 years ago. They could get away with this IF the food was any good - but it's not. it's the worst kind of generic, horrible 'Chinese' food. There are some decent Chinese restaurants nearby - these guys are giving everyone else a bad name.

Review of The Neal Street Restaurant

Restaurant closed
interesting to read suzy g's review. What was the Neal Street restaurant is now a branch of American Apparel, so maybe she got confused and ate a very delicious pair of overpriced, brightly coloured pants?

dreadful
Used to be a fantastic shop, pretty much all sports covered. i think the owner 'cheap shell suits and trainers' bought it and now it's like a discount warehouse full of clothes that you have to keep away from a naked flame. The shop itself is a mess, with stock piled up and often on the floor, i can't be bothered to write anymore, a painful retail experience.

too old for this place!
As I begin the steady roll downhill into old-age, shops like this seemt o be standing on the sidelines, flicking the Vs at me and yelling obscenities at me, safe in the knowledge that I lack the necessary energy to do anything about. Fake vintage clothes at non-fake prices, 'cool' stuff that clearly isn't cool, piles of plastic tat which is meant to be ironic - wind up plastic grannies, god-awful overpriced kitschy plastic picture frames, strings of fairy lights with plastic flowers attached. Obligatory collection of cool music, includingt vinyl, so you can buy it, take it home, play it on one of your technics, once, then ignore it. Shops like this have been a portent of the incoming credit crunch for sometime, when we have enough money to piss away on the stuff shops like this sell, we clearly have too much easy credit. Right, back to Countdown....

Review of Avondale Mini Market

Porn, milk, beer and fags..
sounds like a perfect weekend! Well, it would be, but they're generally completely out of stock of at least 2 of the four staples of the corner shop. Quite often i've popped in to get some milk, and they had none left. Or they had a solitary can of Stella warming gently on a shelf. Or else a single packet of cigarettes. Clearly they have supply issues here, and I believe the main reason is the shop is slightly smaller than my bathroom so they probably have nowhere to put their stock. (I'd also like to point out my bathroom smells a lot better, well, most of the time). They never seem to run out of very cheap looking porn mags, of the 'reader's wives' variety. I don't buy porn here, but you can't help but see it on the shelf when that's the only thing they have left in the shop to buy. (As an aside, I don't understand how the printed porn industry is doing so well in smaller newsagents and service stations when surely the internet has cornered the market?!?) Anyway, even though the shop is tiny, surely they should have the basics in?

Review of Merton Timber

Terrible customer service
Places like this don't deserve to stay in business. As they're so close to home, I've been in a couple of times and each time found the staff rude and unhelpful. Now, I realise to them i probably look like a speccy tosser, and well done to them for making that observation. But they clearly didn't want to help me. I was trying to get some flooring so would have been spending quite a bit, but no, all four idiots standing around behind the counter would rather grunt, patrionise you and laugh at you when you get your measurements mixed up rather than trying to help. Pardon me if I don't know what the standard size for florring materials are! That's why I'm in here asking for some assistance! Which is why, the fantastic Whitten Timber in 'Peckham Central' now get all my business. I realise places like this generally do most of their business for tradesmen, but treating punters with cash this badly.. no excuse.

Review of Jessops

Uselss, useless, useless
I've been in here about 6 times when either looking for a specific piece of kit I'd researched online, or else browsing and asking for info. On each occasion I dealt with grumpy, unhelpful and on two occasions downright rude members of staff. On one occasion, I'd popped in to have a look at tripod they had in stock, the member of staff basically refused to sell it to me, and kept trying to push an inferior piece of tat at me. I gave him an option - sell me the tripod, or i'll go somewhere else to buy one. While he tried to make his mind up, I went over the road and bought one at Jacobs. How bad can their hiring policy be if they have people like this working in what must be one of their busiest stores. Avoid like the plague, and head over the road to Jacobs, they actually know what they're doing.
