Review of The Box Bar

Great gay salads! 4*

Used to pop in here fairly often when I worked nearby. I'm sure in the evenings it's very lively, but it's generally pretty quiet at lunchtime - you can egenrally get a pretty big group in here without any problems - the salads are great.

Review of Caffe Nero

12 Jun 08, 12:30

The coffee is burnt! 2*

I don't want to wade into the 'dreadful chains invading discrete Dulwich' debate - presumably they're here because they have a market, and in a 'free world' - who are we to tell people that Green and Blue up the road does coffee that is about 10 times better than the burnt stuff these guys serve. These places serve a purpose, they are kid and buggy friendly, which people criticise them for, but often they are convenient if you are cursed with kids. But the thing I don't get with these places is that the coffee is pretty bad. You'd think if you're going to set up a successful coffee business you'd be selling a product that is wonderful, and that justifies the money? Well, Starbucks, Costa and Nero - the coffee isn't good enough!

Review of The Camera Cafe

A camera shop... with a cafe! 4*

Coffee was above average, and they have a decent range of pre-loved camera gear in here. an essential stop on a 'buying more camera' trip round central London. if you sufffer from NAS (Nikon aquisition syndrome) then this place should be at the top of your list.

Review of Epoca Expresso Bar

Great coffee, food ok 4*

Haven't eaten here for a while, but they seem to do all from sandwiches, paninis, through to 'the full english'. Coffee is what keeps me coming back, if I can't walk up the road to Monmouth Coffee then epoca is a good second best. Apart from the grumpy girl who makes the stuff, it's very good coffee - made from illy beans which is generally a pretty good sign. give it a go!

Review of The Cafe @ Foyles Bookshop

11 Jun 08, 09:45

Good for a weekday lunch or browsing weekend visit 4*

Food is all freshly prepared, they make coffee using beans from Monmouth coffee so it tastes fab. A bit of a bohemian vibe as it's stuffed down one side of the jazz shop inside Foyles, but it has a lovely relaxed atmos. Wifi works sometimes, and you can plop your booty down on a stool, and stare over charing Cross road at those poor deluded fools staring back at you from the Starbucks in Books Etc! As an aside, this place extends the relationship between coffee and jazz, and having not been around in the 50s, I'm not sure who kicked this off - but the two do go together really well when I'm out and about, but I can't say I ever make coffee at home and think "hey! what i really need is some Charlie Mingus to go with this brew!"

Review of Cafe In The Park

Need tea and cake? Get in! 3*

If you've spent your time hiding in the bushes and staring at the birds, or whatever it is you've got up to in the Country Park, recharge those batteries with some tea and buns. Nothing spectacular, but, you do get a good view, and if the weather's good you can sit outside!
