Review of Redland Tandoori

Nice and Spicey 4*

The people who run this takeaway (which is also a restaurant) are astoundingly nice. They are also shrewd businessmen and understand how lucrative a takeaway in a largely student residential area is. We are regularly thanked for placing ‘large’ orders (over 4 people!) with a free bottle of red wine, that although lacking slightly in quality, is still well received and ensures we always return. As with all takeaway Indians, the food is slightly greasy, but the flavours are well blended.

Review of Pieminister

Pie and mighty 4*

Pieminister pies are now a Bristol institution. The brand is now a guarantee of really tasty food accompanied with a nice big slice of satisfaction in the knowledge that the produce is good quality and the company is a well-respected local one. They consistently provide pies in innovative and original flavours that mean you will, never, ever become bored of eating them

Review of Simply Thai

16 Jul 08, 14:11

Simply delicious 4*

Simple Thai is an unpretentious Oriental take away, which serves consistently good food. We have had one disastrous order from there, whereby we got completely the wrong food, however other than this, every single meal has been delicious, reasonably priced and of a really decent portion size.

Review of BS8

Good stuff all over the shop 4*

BS8 has been solely responsible for shaping the way Bristol’s youth dress. A one-stop-shop of men’s, women’s and anything in between’s clothes, you are just as likely to find a favourite pair of jeans here, as you are a ball gown. Some vintage, some new, with a scattering of accessories quite literally ‘all over the shop'. If you want a new, relatively cheap outfit – go to BS8.

Review of Bristol Flyer

11 Jul 08, 15:26

High Flyer 4*

Although large in size, the Bristol Flyer is very different from a generic chain pub. Nestled safely up the Gloucester Road, this pub is frequented by a variety of drinkers. The atmosphere is always relaxed and friendly and usually service isn’t too slow. Food standards vary depending on how busy it is, but on a good night, you can eat pretty tasty nosh for a reasonable price.

Review of Clifton Village

Fishing from Compliments 4*

As you would expect from an establishment in Clifton, everything here is a little ‘nicer’ than usual. Running true to the lah-dee-daah reputation of the area, you can expand your fishy knowledge here, and it is possible to order an delightful array of seaside delights. It is difficult to compare this type of establishment with the generic chippie you find on every corner. This is, indeed, a different kettle of fish. The prices correspond with culinary magnitude, but they are worth it.

Review of Kwans

09 Jul 08, 15:23

Sevice with a smile from me 4*

Kwans may be a little lack-lustre in terms of aesthetics and location, but that is off-set by the kindness and generosity of the owners. When I bought my Cod and Chips from there a few weeks ago, I accidentally dropped them on the floor and my beloved Friday night was on the tiles in the worst sense. Unfazed - they gave me an entirely new meal for free and consequently it tasted even more delicious. If you are in the area, go here.

Review of The Rendezvous Fish & Chip Shop

09 Jul 08, 14:37

Rendezvous at Rendezvous 4*

Eating Fish and Chips from Rendezvous is like getting a piscine hug. The décor is classic chip shop - and is thus very reassuring. When you visit Rendezvous, you feel everything is right in the world. Not only this, but the fish is fresh, the chips are tasty and the service is quick. And don't worry: if you go there and don't appreciate it for all its glory - there are plenty more fish in the sea.
